Ena de Silva Foundation
The Ena de Silva Foundation aims to preserve, maintain, collect, and archive the works of the late artist to continue the craft legacy and support the livelihoods of the craftspeople at the Aluwihare Heritage Centre. It was set up in 2023 and is a not for profit and public trust.
The main objectives of the Trust are:
To preserve, maintain, collect, and archive the works of the late Ena de Silva and those who were closely associated with her works including her son the late Anil Gamini Jayasuriya, other artists and designers in related fields and co-workers. The works include the textile crafts of batik and embroidery along with other craft work in wood and brass. It also includes the culinary works developed by Ena de Silva to promote local and traditional food cultures.
To record and archive the works, designs, products, and processes for the purpose of research and to defend the copyright and intellectual rights of the work.
To develop research, education, and innovation initiatives to strengthen and sustain the livelihoods of the craftspeople at the said Aluwihare Heritage Centre.
To publish books, periodicals, magazines, newsletters on arts and crafts and other matters that would be of interest to practitioners of such arts and crafts, hold competitions, seminars, and conferences about arts and crafts for the extension of knowledge about the crafts.
To facilitate and organise national and international exhibitions and events to disseminate the recorded knowledge about the works of Ena de Silva and the Aluwihare Heritage Centre.
To engage, educate and work with the young people to preserve and promote the legacy of Ena de Silva and the Aluwihare Heritage Centre.
